PANTHR EMR is an alliance working for finding innovative solutions to ending combustible smoking in 22 countries inhabited by nearly 700 million people. The Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) countries face a daunting smoking challenge. By 2025, EMR will register the least decrease in smoking prevalence among the WHO regions. Smoking cessation services remains a weak link in the tobacco control efforts in EMR.
While remaining committed to and supporting tobacco control efforts in EMR, especially Article 14 of FCTC, the alliance serves as a platform for advocating and promoting all innovative solutions for ending smoking whether counselling, NRTs, or harm reduction.
We believe a collaborative effort, backed by research and advocacy, is urgently required for finding permanent solution to the problem of smoking in EMR.
PANTHR EMR works with health professionals, civil society organizations, academics, youth, women, media and others for a smoking free EMR.
